AI you can defend
We turn modern AI into infrastructure that holds up under scrutiny — to your board, your regulator, and the people you answer to. Not the loudest model. The right one.
We work with institutions that cannot afford a wrong answer — and we operate to that standard end-to-end.
The idea behind B86N first took shape during the founder's postgraduate study at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School, addressing a question that has only grown sharper since: how do institutions hold the line on truth in an environment where synthetic media is faster, cheaper, and more convincing than ever?
What started as academic work has become a working company — combining that grounding with twenty years of real-world security deployment across government, large organisations, service providers, and cloud environments. Today we design AI strategy, build proprietary models, train teams, and operate the media intelligence platform that powers verification, detection, and prevention at scale.
AI deployed with discipline — not enthusiasm
The current wave of AI rewards noise over rigour. We work the other way. The right technique for the actual problem, calibrated for accuracy that holds up under scrutiny, and operated with awareness of what each decision really costs — in errors, in energy, in trust.
Right model for the right problem
We pick the technique the problem actually requires. Classical methods where they outperform. Specialised models where they're sharper. Large language models where reasoning and language matter — never as the default for everything.
Engineered to minimise false positives
A noisy alert is worse than no alert — it teaches the institution to ignore the system. Every threshold is calibrated, every output is explainable, and every claim is defensible to a regulator or a judge.
Energy-aware by design
Compute has a real cost — to budgets, to grids, to the planet. We don't burn GPUs on problems that don't need them. Lighter models where they suffice, larger ones where they earn it. Sustainable AI is a design choice, not a press release.
Human oversight, by design
Consequential decisions route through human review. AI scales judgment; it does not replace it. Accountability stays with the people the institution actually answers to.
